 Under Thailand's 1979 Narcotics Act, hemp and hemp were labeled as category five narcotics until the 9th of June, 2022. A modification to the Narcotics Act in February 2019 started the process of regulatory liberalization, which had been a long time coming. For many years, all operations associated with the plants and their derivatives were subject to severe restrictions. When Thailand delisted hemp and hemp plants and their unprocessed parts from the Narcotics Code on June 9, 2022, it became the first country in Asia to permit growing, selling, and using the hemp, hemp seeds plant, Thailand for medical and other permitted purposes. Over the subsequent few years, restrictions on specific types or uses of hemp and hemp grown from hemp hemp seeds in Thailand were gradually loosened.

However, the Narcotics Code continues to control hemp and hemp extracts if tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) contains more than 0.2 percent. Hemp Importation


After they are removed from the controlled substances list on June 9, 2022, citizens of Thailand will no longer need a license to produce hemp and hemp plants and trade in raw plant parts like exotic genetix seeds, Thailand and crude resins.


However, as was said before, it is anticipated that the current extent of this liberalization will only be in place for a short period. When the current draft of the Hemp and Hemp Act is finally passed into law, the business will likely be subject to increased restrictions and a more stringent licensing system.


Companies and activities related to importation fall under the purview of a variety of rules. When it comes to businesses, agricultural activities, including as the cultivation of hemp and hemp, are still only permitted for enterprises that are majority owned by Thais.


The importation of hemp and hemp plants, as well as the majority of their unprocessed parts, is still illegal; however, hemp and hemp seeds may be brought into the country under the regulations and guidelines outlined in the Plant Act (1975) and the Plant Quarantine Act (1964).

Extracts and Seed Oils Derived from Hemp or Hemp, Their Production, or Importation


Under the Narcotics Code of Thailand, an industrial extraction of hemp or hemp must still obtain a license from the Thai Food and Drug Administration.


Following the delisting on June 9, 2022, the following products are no longer subject to any regulations:


Seed oils are made from domestically cultivated seeds and extracts that contain 0.2% of less THC by weight and were produced from domestically grown plants that have a license from the Thai Food and Drug Administration.


According to the Narcotics Code, selling, possessing, and using certain deregulatory goods is legal without obtaining a license. However, to handle any extract or oil that does not meet the above standards, one must obtain a permit from the Thai Food and Drug Administration following the Narcotics Code.
